deliberately应该一是指 故意地 二是 慎重地，不慌不忙地 吧？

但是今天读到尼克松‘The Interest of the Nation Must Always Come Before Any Personal Considerations’这篇演讲的时候里面有一句：As long as there was such a base,I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion,that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.

这里面的“that deliberately difficult process”应该怎么讲？好象跟deliberately具有的两个意思都对不上号啊？
后来我又查到一本书里把这里翻译为“（对）这个艰难过程本质（的不忠实）”，“本质”从哪里来的？这里这种用法什么意思，请各位大师指点！

我想这里deliberately还是取其本意“故意地”，在上下文中可理解为“对该进程人为地制造困难”，翻译时为顺利传达原意，延伸意译为“本质上的不忠实”。所谓“本质上的”可理解为是人为造成事实的结果。不知道这样解释是否牵强，个人理解，仅供参考。

在演讲中经常会有一些演讲者本人即兴发挥的用法，有些甚至还无法用普通语法现象解释，我想这可能算是一例了。
